Project Description
A project was conducted to remove contaminated sediments from Elliott Bay adjacent to Seattle, Washington. Sediments removed from Elliott Bay were placed to a contaminated sediment management facility prior to transportation to a landfill in eastern Washington via train. KTA’s role was to permit and manage compliance for the contaminated sediment management facility. The permit negotiation was challenging, given the high-profile nature of the project. Management of compliance was also difficult, given the 100-year rain event that incurred in middle of sediment removal. The project was successfully completed, resulting in the removal of substantial contamination from Elliott Bay.
