Project Description
KTA, under contract from the United States Army Corps of Engineers, conducted an investigation to determine the nature and extent of contamination in the Portland Harbor. The investigation was conducted at a cost of over $1M and included the use of several large subcontractors. The investigation was challenging given the large area characterized and the extent of tar-like contamination in the sediments associated with the discharge of oil in the early 20th century. The investigation results were used to excavate sediments and ultimately fully remediate the Portland Harbor superfund site.
